Over the past few weeks the Talk Culture Mile series of events in the City has demonstrated the exclusionary nature of this project, with the aim being to bring ‘together organisations from across all sectors’ while not inviting the main stakeholders, local residents. So while the Improving Social Mobility Through Creative Skills talk was held at Golden Lane Community Centre on 4 July 2019, no one involved troubled themselves to notify tenants on the council estate that houses the venue of this event, since it seems the idea is to leave the organisation of social mobility to professionals – who we assume are mostly interested in preserving their own privileges by holding back the working class. The fact this talk was intended for people unfamiliar with the area rather than local residents was underlined by the leaflet promoting it carrying the following information after the venue’s address: “The community centre is opposite Great Arthur House, EC1Y 0RD”. Local people know where the community centre is.
At a City of London planning committee meeting last year both James Thomson and Mark Boleat voted in favour of Taylor Wimpey’s The Denizen development; this will replace 110 social housing units with 99 over-priced luxury flats and with no on site social or affordable housing. This demonstrates exactly where both men are coming from on housing issues. It’s all about money-making over local social need. James Thomson was formerly deputy chief financial officer and chief operations officer of Cushman and Wakefield, commercial property and real estate consultants, which marketed and sold the site he voted to grant planning permission for to Taylor Wimpey. Curious isn’t it that at least two City of London councillors responsible for poor planning decisions as regards housing in Cripplegate also happen to live in the suburban Three Rivers district that has recently been flagged up as suffering from spiralling homelessness. What’s more one of them, Chris Hayward, is actually a councillor in that part of Hertfordshire. As we’ve previously noted those pre-selling investors ghost homes in Taylor Wimpey’s planned development The Denizen AKA The Turd have hyped up the location with lies while saying nothing about the fact it will overlook the site of the old City of London mortuary in Golden Lane. What goes around comes around and so The Denizen at the south end of Golden Lane has been promoted as a place to park dead money; sadly these ghost homes will mostly be left empty rather than entombing the dead lives of those who invest in them.Read more "The Denizen – A New Palace For The Dead!"
The City wants hot money looted by corrupt elites from outside the overdeveloped world to pour into London and other global centres, where it can be invested in property and thus hyper-inflate the housing market. As a result rents and mortgages get puffed up, and so do potential profits for financial capital as debt increases. As the last crash showed, the periodic failures of this system are often the means by which yet more wealth is transferred from the poor to the rich. While those thinking of buying into Taylor Wimpey’s proposed Gerrymander Mansions development might be under the impression it is a gold-plated investment opportunity, should they be foolish enough to part with their money they’re more than likely to find themselves mugged off with a liability rather than an asset. Judged on both the dominant personnel and how it operates, Cascade is very much a continuation of the Bell Pottinger-style of public relations under another name; and changes of identity are very necessary to these PR clones as their old monikers become discredited. This piece “Bell Pottinger pushed SA into jaws of kleptocracy. Can we claw country back?” from BizNews (18 July 2017) illustrates that: For many in South Africa, Bell Pottinger has become a swearword, much like Gupta. References to both are now synonymous for what ails South Africa – corruption and state capture.
